Visa and passport requirements for France - Morocco trips
With Morocco not being a Schengen member, passing through passport control is mandatory. Any valid passport or document recognized by the Kingdom of Morocco is more than sufficient unless you’re planning to stay there for more than 3 months. In such cases, a visa is required.
Passport control when traveling by ferry isn’t as burdensome as when traveling by plane. Still, it is highly advisable to contact your embassy for additional information, and arrive at the port of departure well in advance to avoid possible delays.
Note: depending on the itinerary, passport control is carried out either on board or at the ferry terminal.

Transferring your vehicle from France to Morocco by ferry
The three ferry routes to Morocco from France are all operated by conventional ferries with garage spaces that allow the transport of motor vehicles. This is a rather convenient way of bringing your car to Morocco and exploring the country at your own pace.
For vehicle transfer, a form is to be filled out, and you must carry the following documents with you:
- Vehicle registration certificate
- Driver's license
- Rental contract (for rental cars, campervans, motorbikes, etc.)
- International insurance certificate - Green Card
Make sure to plan your trip well ahead of time, as vehicle tickets for Morocco tend to sell out fast, especially during the high season months.
Tip: if you wish to reach Sète or Marseille by car and leave it there, there are parking lots close to both ports. In Marseille, however, driving around is tricky, and there is even a Low Emission Zone that affects all motor vehicles. Arriving earlier at the port is suggested.
