8+1 wheelchair-accessible beaches in the Greek islands
Τα τελευταία χρόνια, όλο και περισσότερα νησιά της Ελλάδας επενδύουν στην προσβασιμότητητα. In the past decade, the Greek islands have been increasingly investing in accessible amenities. One of the best initiatives has been installing the SEATRAC system on many popular beaches, granting independent sea access to visitors with disabilities or reduced mobility.
At the moment, there are over 200 accessible beaches in Greece waiting for you, many of which are located in the islands. On Ferryhopper, we have chosen our top 9 wheelchair-accessible beaches where you can enjoy the sea and the sun during your holidays:
- Chrisi Milia, Alonissos
- Agia Marina, Aegina
- Agathopes, Syros
- Agioi Apostoloi, Chania (Crete)
- Alinda, Leros
- Komi, Chios
- Aegiali, Amorgos
- Agia Pelagia, Kythira
- Paleokastritsa, Corfu
Important: bear in mind that the sea accessibility equipment is usually available from June to September (high season). If you are planning to visit a beach off season, we recommend checking the SEATRAC website to see if the system remains active.
1. Chrisi Milia, Alonissos
One of the most popular beaches in Alonissos island in the Sporades, Chrisi Milia is easy to access and is surrounded by pine trees. It has shallow turquoise waters and is one of the few sandy beaches on the island.
The beach is now equipped with a beach track, designated parking space, WC and shower for people with disabilities. Part of it is equipped with amenities, such as sunbeds and umbrellas, and you can also grab a bite and a drink at the beach bar.
2. Agia Marina, Aegina
A jump away from the Greek capital of Athens, Aegina is a wheelchair-friendly destination where you can enjoy a few relaxing days. On the island, there are 4 beaches with accessibility features: Agia Marina, Agios Vasileios, Vagia, and Avra.
Out of these, stands out the wide and popular beach of the Agia Marina resort town, equipped with a beach track, parking, WC, changing room, shade, and shower for people with reduced mobility. In fact, the SEATRAC independent sea access system is available at 4 beaches in Syros: Vari, Agathopes, Voulgari, and Galissas.
One of the most beautiful beaches and probably the best equipped for wheelchair users in Syros is Agathopes, in the western part of the island. It has all necessary facilities for people with reduced mobility: beach track, parking space, WC, shower, changing room, and shade.
With golden sand, shallow waters, tavernes and shops, it’s no wonder Agathopes is one of the most popular beaches on the islands!

4. Agioi Apostoloi, Chania
The largest island in Greece is also a great destination for travelers with disabilities. In Crete, you can find several accessible seaside and mountain resorts. Moreover, Rethymnon has taken initiatives to make the town more accessible to people with reduced mobility. Thanks to the “Rethymno for All” project, there is now wheelchair-friendly infrastructure around town and in major monuments.
As for accessible coasts, you can find 6 beaches equipped with the SEATRAC system around the cities of Heraklion, Rethymnon and Chania. The Chania area hosts 3 of them, and we recommend visiting the 2 beaches of Agioi Apostoloi that have all necessary wheelchair-friendly features (ramp, parking space, etc.) and are only 20 minutes away from the city. Enjoy the clean, shallow waters and the gorgeous forest by the shore, and relax to the max!
5. Alinda, Leros
Moving on to the Dodecanese and one of the most authentic islands in the Aegean: the verdant Leros. The island of Artemis is becoming more and more popular thanks to its stunning landscape, picturesque settlements and incredible beaches. It is only normal that it gradually takes a step forward when it comes to accessibility amenities.
Leros now has 2 beaches equipped with the SEATRAC system: Alinda and Xirokampos. Both are wonderful and have everything you need in terms of accessibilty equipment! We recommend visiting Alinda, which is one of the biggest on the island, has clear blue waters and several amenities. Moreover, you can have lunch and coffee at the homonymous village, which is right by the beach.

Moreover, as the settlement is pretty popular, there are many accommodation options, restaurants, and cafeterias close to the beach, which is very easily accessible.
