Ferries Phi Phi Islands

Ferry companies serving routes to the Phi Phi Islands typically offer discounted prices for certain passenger categories. For example, infants and toddlers up to 2/3 years old usually travel free of charge, while children up to 9-12 years old are entitled to discounts with some operators.

Note that available discounts may vary from one operator to another.

If you're traveling in the high season (November to April), we recommend booking your ferry tickets at least 1-2 weeks in advance, especially for early-morning departures or popular routes. This is especially important around Christmas, New Year, and Songkran (Thai New Year), when routes are popular and ferries can sell out quickly.

If you're planning your trip during the shoulder season (April, May, or October), you’ll usually find more availability and can book just a few days in advance. These months also offer greater flexibility and often come with better deals on both tickets and accommodation. During the low / monsoon season (May to October), ferries still run, but services may be less frequent and subject to cancellations due to rough sea conditions. We recommend checking the ferry schedules closer to your departure date and choosing flexible tickets where possible.

The Phi Phi Islands form an archipelago in the Andaman Sea, between Phuket and Krabi in southern Thailand. The two main inhabited islands are Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh. Phi Phi Don is where you’ll find most accommodation, restaurants and services, while Phi Phi Leh is uninhabited and known for dramatic landscapes, lagoons, caves, and iconic bays.

The islands are beloved for their towering limestone cliffs, turquoise waters, coral reefs, and dramatic scenery. Popular spots include Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave, Monkey Beach, and snorkeling or diving around surrounding reefs. Note that Maya Bay has undergone closures and restrictions at times to protect the ecosystem so always check current status.

The Phi Phi Islands are relatively small in land area, making it ideal for exploring by boat, snorkeling, short hikes, or simply relaxing on beaches. Despite their popularity, you’ll still find quieter vibes in less-visited coves or by heading early/late in the day.

• Arrive at the pier at least 30 minutes before departure (more in high season) to secure a good seat and handle check-in formalities.
• The local currency in the Phi Phi Islands is the Thai Baht (THB). While some places accept cards, we recommend carrying cash as most ferry terminals, small shops, and transfer services on the island operate in cash only.
• Before your trip, it’s advisable to monitor the weather and sea conditions, especially in the low season; sometimes ferries are delayed or cancelled.
• If staying overnight on Phi Phi, try to time your arrival in daylight hours so you can orient yourself, get supplies, and avoid confusion in unfamiliar surroundings.

Ferry routes to the Phi Phi Islands are operated by high-speed catamarans, as well as some conventional vessels. The conventional boats tend to be more stable and cheaper; speedboats are faster but may be more affected by sea conditions.

On board the vessels, there are normally indoor, air-conditioned seating areas. You can also find outdoor deck spaces on some ferries, where you can soak in the sea views during the trip. Ferries to the Phi Phi Islands do not have cabins, as the crossings are usually short.

Traveling with pets is normally not allowed on Phi Phi Islands ferries.

Ferries to the Phi Phi Islands only accommodate foot passengers, so vehicle transportation is normally not possible.

You can travel to the Phi Phi Islands from ports such as Phuket (Rassada pier), Krabi (Klong Jilad pier / Kong Ka / Railay), and Koh Lanta (Saladan Pier).

On the Phi Phi Islands side, the two main arrival piers are Tonsai Pier (on Ko Phi Phi Don) and Laemtong Pier (northern part, mostly used by some speedboat services). Tonsai is the primary hub for restaurants, accommodations and island services; Laemtong offers more direct beach access and quieter surroundings.

In the port area, you'll typically find small shops, cafes, ticket offices, luggage services, boat shuttles, and local long-tail boats that ferry you from the pier to nearby beaches. Local amenities are limited but sufficient for essentials.
