How can I reach Capri by ferry?

You can get to Capri from 10 ports in mainland Italy and 2 islands:

Which ferry companies travel to Capri?

There are 7 ferry companies operating ferry routes to Capri from the ports mentioned above:

  1. SNAV operates on routes to Capri from Naples, Sorrento and Castellammare di Stabia.
  2. NLG (Navigazione Libera del Golfo) serves crossings to Capri from Naples, Sorrento, Castellammare di Stabia, Amalfi, Salerno, and Positano.
  3. Positano Jet operates on connections between Capri and Amalfi Coast ports (Amalfi and Positano).
  4. Alicost and Alilauro Gruson ferries travel to Capri from Sorrento, Castellammare di Stabia, Amalfi, Positano, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Salerno, Vietri Sul Mare, and the islands of Ischia and Procida.
  5. Caremar serves crossings to Capri from Naples and Sorrento.
  6. Capitan Morgan, with weekly ferries from Ischia to Capri.
  7. Grassi Junior serving daily crossings from Positano.

Important: as non-resident motor vehicles are normally not allowed on the island from Easter to November, most ferry companies serving routes to Capri don’t transport vehicles.

Ferry companies traveling to Capri from the Gulf of Naples

Ferries to Capri mainly depart from Naples, Sorrento, and Castellammare di Stabia. All 4 companies operating on the Gulf – SNAV, NLG, Alilauro, and Caremar – travel all year round with fast vessels (normally hydrofoils or catamarans).

Caremar is the only ferry company traveling to Capri with standard ferries as well, from the ports of Naples and Sorrento. This is why it is also the only company with which you can bring your vehicle to Capri (usually from November to March).

The company SNAV offers the fastest crossings from the Gulf of Naples to Capri: it serves the Sorrento - Capri ferry crossing in just 17 minutes! Alilauro Gruson and NLG are almost equally fast, serving the crossing in about 20 or 25 minutes, respectively.

However, Alilauro Gruson serves this route more frequently than the other 3, with up to 14 crossings a day.

Note: Alilauro Gruson is also the main company serving the Castellammare di Stabia - Capri ferry route. The crossing takes around 1 hour.

Regarding the ferry route from Naples to Capri, it’s the ferry companies SNAV and NLG that serve the most crossings, with up to 9 daily departures from Beverello port, served by fast vessels. Caremar comes next with up to 6 daily departures from Porta di Massa. SNAV only travels with catamarans and NLG with high-speed jets, reaching Capri in 50 minutes, while Caremar travels with both hydrofoils and conventional ferries that take around1-1.5 hours.

As for ferry tickets prices from the Gulf of Naples to Capri, there is no big difference between the 4 companies, with tickets ranging between €25 and €29. The cheapest tickets are actually offered by Caremar, as Naples - Capri prices for crossings with conventional ferries start at about €19.

Important: a €5 landing tax is included in Capri ferry tickets.

Ferry companies traveling to Capri from the Amalfi Coast

Ferry routes to Capri from the ports of the Amalfi Coast are normally active all year round, with more frequent departures from April to the end of October.

The ferry company Alicost serves the most daily ferry crossings to Capri from the Amalfi Coast, with up to 5 Positano - Capri ferries and another 4 Amalfi - Capri ferry crossings a day in high season. And thanks to its fast hydrofoils, you can reach Capri in just 20-40 minutes from the Amalfi Coast (Positano).

Positano Jet and NLG normally serve up to 3 crossings a day to Capri from Positano and Amalfi. Grassi Junior usually serves 1 daily crossing.

Tickets from Positano and Amalfi to Capri range between €21-€25 (Alicost and Grassi Junior) and €27-€29 (Positano Jet and NLG). Prices may vary depending on the season.

Ferry companies traveling to Capri from Salerno

The 2 ferry companies traveling from the port of Salerno (Molo Manfredi or Molo Concordia) to Capri are Alicost and NLG. Both companies mainly operate on the Salerno - Capri ferry connection from April to October (though Alicost also serves some crossings in the winter months).

Alicost usually serves 3 morning crossings in high season, while NLG normally serves 1 daily crossing. Ferry tickets from Salerno to Capri range between €30 and €32 with both companies.

Ferry companies traveling to Capri from Ischia

Alicost is the main ferry company connecting the islands of Capri and Ischia in the Gulf of Naples. From April to October, the company operates on the Ischia - Capri ferry route with 1 crossing per day and ferry tickets starting at €27.

Note: the smaller Capitan Morgan ferry agency also serves Ischia - Capri crossings in the summer months with 2 weekly crossings.

Alilauro is the only company connecting Capri and Procida. From May to September, Alilauro offers 1 daily crossing between Procida and Capri. Prices start at €26.50.

Luggage on Capri ferries

Each ferry company traveling to Capri has its own baggage allowance policy. More specifically:

  • On SNAV ferries, you can transfer up to 1 piece of hand luggage, with a maximum size of 50x35x20 cm and a maximum weight of 9 kg.
  • On Alicost / Alilauro Gruson ferries passengers can carry 1 piece of luggage up to 50x35x20 cm in size and 9 kg in weight, free of charge. Note that suitcases, travel bags and backpacks are considered luggage.
  • On NLG ferries, you can carry only 1 piece of luggage with a maximum size of 50x30x15 cm and a maximum weight of 5 kg free of charge.
  • Positano Jet there is a €3 fee per luggage piece. All suitcases and types of luggage, regardless of weight and size, are considered luggage.
  • On Caremar ferries, passengers can carry up to 1 piece of luggage with a maximum size of 50x40x20 cm and a maximum weight of 10 kg (hydrofoils) or 20 kg (standard ferries).
  • On Capitan Morgan and Grassi Junior vessels, there are no specific limits for luggage.

Note: for any additional/larger/heavier luggage than the ones specified by the companies, it is possible that you are charged with an extra fee.

Pet travel

Pets are welcome onboard all ferry companies traveling to Capri for a small fee of around €5, depending on the company. Normally, pets should wear a muzzle and a leash if they are not inside a carrier or a cage during the trip.

Tip: remember to carry all updated health documents and necessary supplies for your pet.

Electronic tickets

The ferry companies operating crossings to Capri that support electronic tickets are:

  • NLG
  • SNAV
  • Alicost and Alilauro Gruson
  • Capitan Morgan
  • Grassi Junior

This means that, if you book tickets to Capri with these companies, you don’t have to collect them from a ticket office before boarding the ferry. You can just download them from the Ferryhopper App!

The companies Positano Jet and Caremar do not issue electronic tickets. This means that, if you book tickets with them, you have to present your online reservation to pick up your tickets at the port before boarding.

Extra info: all ferry operators offer discounts for children (<11/12 years depending on the company), while infants (<2/3 years) normally travel for free. Positano Jet also offers a discount for senior travelers (over 60).
