Are there other airports close to Corfu?
The international airport of Corfu is located close to Corfu Town and it is the only airport on the island. As it will be closed for 15 days, you can travel by ferry between Corfu and mainland Greece, where several airports are in operation.
The closest airports in mainland Greece are located in Ioannina (77 km), Aktion (106 km) and Kastoria (148 km). All airports are easily accessed by motorway. Other cities with airports that are farther away but are still easily accessible are Athens and Thessaloniki.
Alternatively, the airport on the island of Kefalonia is around 174 km away. Direct ferries, however, between Corfu and Kefalonia are not available at the moment, as the route is in operation only in the summer.
How to travel between Corfu and its nearest airports?
In Corfu, there are 2 ports: the port of Corfu Town and the port of Lefkimmi.
Both ports of Corfu are connected to the port of Igoumenitsa in Western Greece every day year-round. Standard ferry tickets on the Igoumenitsa - Corfu ferry cost around €5-€6, with the ferry trip lasting around 1 hour.
Igoumenitsa is the main gateway between Corfu and the nearest airports in mainland Greece (Ioannina, Aktion and Kastoria). Igoumenitsa and Ioannina are connected by intercity bus (KTEL Thesprotias). The route is active every day and lasts less than 2 hours. You can also travel between Igoumenitsa and Aktion or Kastoria by car.
Igoumenitsa is also connected to Athens and Thessaloniki by intercity buses. This is a great alternative, as Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" and Thessaloniki Airport "Makedonia" offer several national and international flight connections. The journey to/from Igoumenitsa lasts around 4-6 hours, depending on the airport you've chosen and your preferred means of transport (bus or car).
Tip: regarding Albania, there is 1 daily ferry connection on the Sarandë - Corfu route throughout the year. The trip lasts around 30 minutes and costs about €20.
