1. Reaching the churches of Kamares in Sifnos

If you are not familiar with the beautiful peculiarities of Sifnos, you should know that it’s an island overflowing with whitewashed churches! Some of them are accessible on foot as soon as you reach the Sifnos from Piraeus by ferry.

In Kamares, the port of Sifnos and where the island’s popular campsite is located, you can find the Church of Agia Marina at the end of the sandy beach. You can either walk along the motorway to the path leading to the church or cross the beach of Kamares on your way there. Simple enough? Well, we are not done just yet.

To level up your hiking experience in Kamares, consider reaching the Church of St. Symeon, situated (much) higher than the Church of Agia Marina. The hike will reward you with a fantastic panoramic view, perfect for sunset moments! You can either walk for about 1.5 hours, starting from the beach of Kamares or try out the famous Pilgrimage Route, which starts at the village of Artemonas and crosses the more mountainous side of Sifnos.

2. From the Castle of Sifnos to the Church of Chryssopigi

This beautiful and diverse hiking trail has Kastro (meaning “Castle”) as its starting point. Kastro is a beautiful settlement in Sifnos, perfect for quaint strolls and good food. Make sure to spend some time there before embarking on your journey to the seaside Church of Chryssopigi.

The path from Kastro descends to the village of Faros, where the beach of the same name is located, a perfect opportunity for a little break. Once you relax under the shade of its trees, you can follow the coastal path on the rocky end of the Faros beach that leads to the Church of Agios Charalambos, and then to the Church of Chryssopigi, the holy protector of Sifnos.

3. Mythological vibes from Agios Andreas to Artemonas

Known as “The Eternal Capitals”, this hiking trail begins in the Neolithic acropolis of Agios Andreas, a settlement in Sifnos. Soon enough, you will be walking through archeological ruins, alleys with neoclassical mansions, and off-the-beaten-path landscapes.

This 3-hour long hiking trail in Sifnos is great for passing through Kastro for a quick visit, as well as checking out the Holy Monastery of Vrysi, one of the largest on the island.

4. Entering the Cursed Trail

Don’t let the name fool you. The Cursed Trail is a short, easy, and beautiful hiking trail in Sifnos that brims with vegetation and scenic views of the island’s wilder beauty. It lasts less than 2 hours and connects Apollonia, which is the main settlement of Sifnos, with the port of Kamares.

For an easier ride, we suggest that you follow the path downwards, meaning that you will start in Apollonia and finish in Kamares, not the other way around.

5. Visiting one of the longest beaches in the Cyclades

The beach of Platys Gialos in Sifnos is a hiking trail in its own right, full of seaside bars, restaurants and picturesque ceramic creations!

A great way to reach it is, once again, from Apollonia, the main settlement. In this case, you will also have to walk along the motorway for less than half a km, so be wary.

This trail is a great opportunity to explore the hinterland of Sifnos, as you will not be walking by the sea at all. After 2.5 hours, however, you will be well compensated, with the endless beauty of Platys Gialos and its comforts at your disposal.
